About VernazzaVernazza, the hub of the program, is one of the "Five Lands" of Cinque Terre, a collection of small towns clinging to the cliffs of the Ligurian coast of Italy. Daily life for many Vernazzesi consists of work unfamiliar to most visitors, tending crops on the terraced slopes, fishing in the Mediterranean, and transforming the fruits of their labor into products like olive oil, wine, and the wonderful Ligurian cuisine. The town itself
winds up and across the slopes on which it rests, with a rainbow of buildings
layered on the hillsides and separated by narrow, winding streets. The main
via meanders along the riverbed it covers and spills out into the sea at
the Piazza Marconi. Vernazza is at its most glorious early in the morning and late in the evening, when tourist boats are merely a thought and the life town is lived in its charming streets and in the buzzing Piazza Marconi. It is the perfect time to stroll, sip an espresso, chat with some local characters, and see what life in Cinque Terre has been like for generations.
